As a notary public, I am a legally commissioned public official who certifies the authenticity of signatures to important documents. I must verify your identity and affirm that you are signing under your free will. I may also have to administer an oath and make sure all details (name, address, etc.) in the document are correct. Overall, my role is to help combat fraud or identify theft that could arise during important transactions and to give all parties assurances that the documents have been executed properly.
